Help!

Although I adore my husband, he's the pickiest eater I've ever met. I need help with new recipes that still have flavor (I love everything!). He doesn't like onions, peppers, tomatoes, or vegetables of any kind for that matter(peas, squash, zucchini, you name it..).

Oh, and lately he's doing away with garlic(so his breath isn't terrible).

What in the world is a woman supposed to cook? I'm getting bored with our menu, so I'd appreciate any input!

Thanks!

Boy do I understand your problem. When I got married, my husband would only eat fried chicken and Taco Bell. We have come a long way since then, but not without angst on my part in the kitchen.

I've learned that casseroles won't work most of the time. I make the main dish husband friendly and have extra sides of veggies that I love. The suprising result (not without a few pouts here and there)has been my husband deciding that he actually likes some of the vegetables I make.

As for the onion issue, this was major for us. First he had to accept that there is onion in pretty much everything we eat. Then I used onion powder, progressed to onion flakes, onion juice (using a garlic press), large onion slices I could scoop out before he saw them and finally, his resignation that there just may be some onion in his food and he just can't complain if he wants a good meal and a happy wife.

Or have a vegan sister move in and cook for the family for 3 months. Then he really appreciated my cooking! :)

Good luck. Remember to cook things you love every once in a while. You deserve it for your labors!

I've found for the vegetables thing (so you actually get some in your diet) to use the Sneaky Chef cook books. I just bought the new one How to cheat on your man in the kitchen :) It's great and has tons of recipes that guys love but with the vegetables hidden. Hope this helps (I use it with my kids all the time too).

Your husband sounds just like me. My challenge is finding healthy recipes that I myself will eat. (Sigh). It's tough! One of my favorites is cheeseburger pie, and my husband loves it too. The recipe is on my blog here: http://veaterfam.blogspot.com/2008/07/were-having-cheeseburger-pie.html

I hope he'd like that one!

Hi there! I just found you via Makes and Takes. Your husband sounds like mine. I've learned to either use onion powder or pulverize an onion in my food processor. When I need to use tomatoes, I either pulverize them or leave them in big pieces that he can pick out.

I really want our kids to enjoy a wide variety of food, so we've compromised. He's agreed to work on expanding his diet, and I'm trying to keep his preferences in mind while still making interesting food.

Staple menus for us:

Spaghetti, salad, cheesy bread

Shepherd's Pie (grind up the veggies and add BBQ sauce...it takes this humble casserole to a whole new level)

Roast w/ mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, and peas (he usually just eats the meat and potatoes, but lately he's eaten *some* veggies)

Hope that helps! Nice to "meet" you! :)

I would just tell him to grow-up. he needs to be a big boy and eat his veggies. He can eat what you cook, or not eat at all. he sounds like my two year old. Geez!
